woman and a man working for UN aid agencies in Somalia have been killed in drive-by-shooting in Mogadishu’s busiest road of Maka al-Mukarama on Monday afternoon, security and district officials confirmed.
According to the spokesman of the Mogadishu Mayor Abdifatah Halane, the two killed were Amina Mohamed and Abdirizak Adawe. Both were working for the United Nations humanitarian agencies operating in Mogadishu.
The pair were in their car driving along the road when another speedy car blocked their way and started shooting, the spokesman said.
According to a security source, the killers escaped from the scene without being arrested or even identified.
The police reached the crime scene shortly afterwards but no arrests were made.
Assassinations like this are daily occurrence in Somalia and are alleged to be behind by the Al-Shabaab which is an al-qaeda-linked militant group that fights the western-backed government and the African Union peacekeepers in the country.
